Custom Print

Your idea, printed to fit.

From everyday helpers to spare parts, hand-crafted components, and models for architecture and planning firms: we print pretty much anything a 3D printer can produce. Send us an STL, STEP, a sketch, or just a description. We check printability and effort and get back to you with a fixed price before anything goes on the printer. One-offs welcome.

What people come to us for

When you can't just buy it.

Personal or for a business — these are the requests that land on the bench most often:

  • Replacement and fit parts: a lost cap, a broken clip, an adapter between two systems.
  • Mounts and wall brackets for devices, tools, remotes, cables — made to fit instead of a generic solution.
  • Prototypes and functional samples to hold in your hand before committing to a production run.
  • Storage made to fit: drawer inserts, boxes and sorting trays in exactly the size you need.
  • Models for architecture, trade-show, and planning firms.
  • Small production runs of the same part, with a quantity discount from a certain size up.

How it works

Four steps from idea to finished part.

  1. Submit your project

Upload a file (STL, 3MF or STEP) or briefly describe what you need. Measurements, material preference and quantity help us assess it.

  2. Review

We look over your model: is it printable as-is? Does it need support structures? How long will it take, how much material will it use? If anything's unclear, we'll get back to you with a suggestion.

  3. Personal quote

You get a fixed price based on material, print time, finishing, and quantity, including expected delivery time. A personal reply, not a call centre.

  4. Printing and shipping

Once you confirm, we print in Germany, briefly hand-check every part, and ship it carefully packaged. Quantity discounts apply for larger orders.

For the assessment

The more info, the more accurate the quote.

  • 3D file in STL, 3MF or STEP format, if you have one.
  • Measurements or size, if you don't have a file. A sketch or description is enough to start.
  • Material and colour. Default is matte black PLA. On request, over ten further colour and material options are available, including white, pastel green, meadow green, pastel pink, pastel blue and metallic silver, plus glossy PLA and PETG. We print and check new colours as a sample before confirming.
  • Quantity. A single piece, a small run, or a larger batch.
  • Intended use. Important for choosing the right material and strength.

What it costs

A fixed price upfront, no hourly-rate guesswork.

Every request gets a concrete price before anything is printed. The assessment is free and non-binding. Five things determine the number:

  • Material volume. The part's volume and wall thickness, plus support material for overhangs.
  • Print time. Size, level of detail, and the quality you choose. Large or intricate parts take longer.
  • Material. Standard PLA is cheapest; PETG, special colours or a metallic look cost more.
  • Finishing. Deburring is usually enough. Sanding, gluing or painting cost extra.
  • Quantity. From several units up, the per-piece price drops as setup and checking are spread out.

Small everyday parts usually land in the low double digits (EUR), larger or more technical parts above that. We give you the exact price after a quick review of your request — usually within two business days.

From the workshop

One project, from idea to result.

The "Treiben Horn" for @treiben.sound. From request to finished part.

Home-built audio setup with white housings and a red horn, project TREIBEN Horn · Home audio build

Custom print at Kniff

Treiben Horn

A horn for a home-built audio setup. The shape is large, thin-walled, and genuinely awkward for a printer. Across several materials and printers, the real work was getting the walls, edges and surface right — until the part came off the printer exactly as it should.

Frequently asked questions

Before you ask.

How much does a custom print cost?

That depends on size, material, print time, finishing and quantity. That's why we put together a personal quote for every request instead of quoting flat prices.

Do I keep the rights to my submitted design?

Yes, you remain the owner of the rights to the file you submit. By submitting it, you confirm that you own the rights to the design or are authorised to use it. We don't print other people's copyrighted designs without proven permission.

Can I return my part if I don't like it?

Parts made individually to your specifications are legally excluded from the right of withdrawal (§ 312g(2) no. 1 BGB). Details in our Right of Withdrawal page. If there's a defect or a printing error on our part, just get in touch and we'll find a solution.

Which materials are available?

By default we print in PLA, a plant-based material. Other materials like PETG for better heat resistance are available on request. Just tell us what the part is for.
